The History of the Pony Investment Club

Derek often sat in his office at home, counting his money and working out whether his retirement fund was sufficient to provide for Joan and himself. This planning developed into a good understanding of money management and investment. This outlook has been passed onto his children, Helen, Stephen and Andrew.

Derek has a friend who is part of a long standing investment club and became interested in this concepts behind the scheme. At the same time, Helen and one of her best friends, Katie, were casually discussing the opportunities of stock investments.

Whilst on holiday in France during July 1999, these three discussed their interest in shares and investments clubs and a half idea was formed. Later in August, following a very enjoyable evening, of fine food and drink. Mark and Helen walked home, with Katie following staggering and swinging around the trees. A determination to set up a club was formed.

Mark, being from East London, devised the name 'The Pony Club' as monthly payments were set at £25. Creativity being at its best after 4 pints and half a bottle of red wine! The following day, this was expanded, with Derek tasked to find out more details!!!!

As knowledge of our intention grew amongst other friends and family, the numbers grew to 14, with varying motivations:-

Helen wanted to pretend to be the boss (for once)!!!!

Trevor is looking to build a solid retirement fund.

Ann to make a quick buck.

Andrew to become a millionaire in 2 years.

Hilda for the social.

Ted for a quiet life

Joan to see her children on a regular basis and keep Derek amused

Steve to get a free lunch every month

Nobby and Jean to get Katie out of the house

Jenny to make enough money to go on another spending spree in New York

So far, we are having fun!!
